Former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has been linked with a potential shock move to Real Madrid.

The Anfield cult hero is currently without a club after recently agreeing to leave Al Ahli by mutual consent.

Firmino moved to the Saudi Pro League club in the summer of 2023, after his departure from Liverpool.

He signed a three-year contract, in a move that marked a major shift in his career, taking him from the Premier League spotlight to a league undergoing rapid transformation.

The Brazilian’s transfer was part of a wave of high-profile moves to the Saudi Pro League, which has been aggressively investing in global football talent.

The aim has been clear: raise the league’s profile and make it more competitive on the world stage.

However, Firmino’s time at Al Ahli has been far from rosy.

Although he is one of the club’s most important players and was made the club’s captain at his arrival, the 33-year-old was shockingly left out of the squad for domestic league matches in the second half of this season.

The decision came after Al Ahli signed Wenderson Galeno from Porto, pushing their foreign player count to 11—one over the Saudi Pro League limit.

The league only allows 10 foreign players per team, and head coach Matthias Jaissle had to make a difficult call.

However, it was announced shortly after that Firmino would leave Al Ahli at the end of the season.

Up until now, Firmino has not been linked with any club.

However, the latest report in Spain claims that he could be an option for Real Madrid this summer.

Should Firmino move to Real Madrid, he will once more become teammates with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined the Spanish club last week.

While Alexander-Arnold’s move to the Spanish club left a bitter taste in the mouth of Liverpool fans, there is likely to be no such outrage should Firmino sign for Los Blancos, given the nature of his Anfield departure.
